AWS Richmond County AI and Cloud Infrastructure Campus

Amazon announced an estimated $10 billion investment in Richmond County, North Carolina, to expand AWS data-center infrastructure for AI and cloud computing. State and county sources describe the project as an AI/cloud infrastructure campus that will create at least 500 high-skilled jobs. Richmond County says the AWS campus will be located on nearly 800 acres in Energy Way Industrial Park in the Hamlet-Rockingham area and will include 20 data-center buildings of roughly 200,000 to 225,000 square feet each. Data Center Dynamics reported an October 2025 groundbreaking and noted the site's proximity to Duke Energy's Sherwood H. Smith Jr. energy complex, but also reported that the data center's eventual capacity, power source, and opening date had not been revealed. ADCI therefore demotes selected capacity to unknown and treats the record as a Richmond County project-area record, not a precise Hamlet point.
